Tears Are Powerful

Have you seen any of the males crying? Didn’t it strike your mind toward the established belief? Are you also insisting that only weak men cry? Do think of these questions and answer to your selves.

Seeing my father crying when my grandfather died made me disheartened as well as not believing in the so-called phrase males never cry. We will agree by being the eyewitnesses to fathers, brothers, and uncles crying more than anyone else during the Vidai (marriage ritual where a girl bids farewell to her family members). Then also we create a big-fat issue if we see them crying over some of the reasons. Where is it portrayed/titled? Leading from ancient times or present in our lineages or broadcasted in our minds. We, humans, are having a bundle of emotions but are not differentiated on the aspect of gender.

Teachings and values in our Indian society keep taunting the male community by saying and mentioning the following beliefs –

Crying is a sign of weak men. Our society never provides them with the freedom to bring out their tears.

They are said to be insensitive and stronger emotionally.

The bitter truth is that being the boss, and head of the family, men are always taught of hiding their tears as they are the idols of other family members. If they portrayed their fears, they will be marked as weak by their surroundings. The contrast between women crying the most and men has been established by us, the society, the culture, and the lineage which are passed on from recent times till now. According to a report, it has been found that a great proportion of men which is 25 percent of women have been brought to tears after having a progress review at work.

Crying is not a sign of weakness, it is a healthy way to deal with some of the emotions like tension, grief, and anger through the dropping out of tears. I believe crying makes the connection or human bonds deeper and stronger. There are no differences in the emotional statistics based on gender, It is just the human-made stereotypes that suppress the emotions of ‘weak men cry’ or ‘boys don’t cry’.

“My struggles and my pain made me who I am, shaping me into a better man. It takes a lot of courage to show your pain and your vulnerability. But just as sure as the morning, you’ll emerge from it tougher and better. So I encourage you to move past these stereotypes and notions of what men can or cannot do. “There is no shame in showing your tears. So why hide a part of you that makes you stronger? Why hide your tears?” These are the words of our cricket star, Sachin Tendulkar when he bid farewell to cricket in 2013. https://sportstar.thehindu.com/starlife/international-mens-week-sachin-tendulkar-feels-gents-should-have-no-shame-in-crying/article30028097.ece

Next time when you see a small boy crying, don’t tell him that he is weak but make him understand that crying is fine, It is a natural process attached to our bodies. It makes human calm, helps to normalize moods, get rid of the pain we are suffering from, and encourage relations. Quote your examples when you cried out loud, and It gave you a deeper sense of relief and satisfaction. Just remember, the lineage has to be molded by us only.

The sky also weeps, thus it’s all right to do ...
