Softaken's New JSON Formatter Turns Cramped, Minified Code Into Something You Can Actually Read

A wall of minified JSON — one long line no spacing, no indentation is nearly impossible to read by eye, whether it's pulled from an API response, a log file or a build output. Softaken is releasing a free JSON Formatter that fixes this instantly live now at softaken.com/online/json-formatter.

The tool works the way most people would expect: paste in raw or minified JSON, click "Format JSON," and it comes back laid out with proper indentation, spacing. Nothing about the actual data changes. Keys, values and structure stay exactly as entered only the layout is touched.

Along the way, the formatter also checks the syntax. A missing comma, an unclosed bracket, a stray character the kind of small mistake that's easy to miss in a long cramped file gets flagged, pointing toward roughly where the problem sits.

"Formatting sounds like a small thing until you're staring at four thousand characters on one line trying to find a missing bracket," said a Softaken spokesperson.

A few practical notes:
• The tool currently handles formatting only — turning readable JSON back into a minified, whitespace-stripped version is a separate step, not something this does

• It's built for everyday use — API responses, config snippets and similar and works well for that anyone formatting very large files regularly or batching many files at once will get more out of Softaken's desktop software

• Processing happens entirely inside the browser tab. Nothing typed or pasted in is sent to, logged by or stored on Softaken's servers, and closing or refreshing the tab clears it completely

JSON Formatter joins Softaken's expanding collection of free browser tools for developers and everyday text work, alongside a YAML to JSON converter, a JSON to XML converter, a text diff checker, find and replace and several list and text-cleanup utilities.
