Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is proud to announce that its Kochi Refinery has been awarded the highly respected Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) certification by Intertek, a global leader in quality assurance and certification. This prestigious certification recognizes BPCL Kochi Refinery's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, with over 99% of waste successfully diverted from landfills.
This remarkable milestone makes BPCL the only oil and gas company in India to achieve this certification across all its operating locations. The certification highlights BPCL’s dedication to reducing its environmental impact by managing waste in a way that minimizes harm to the environment.
What Does "Zero Waste to Landfill" Mean?
The Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) certification signifies that more than 99% of waste generated by BPCL Kochi Refinery is either recycled, reused, or recovered, rather than being sent to a landfill. This applies to all processes involved in the refinery, including the receipt, storage, and refining of crude oil, as well as the distribution of petroleum and petrochemical products. BPCL has implemented sustainable waste management systems that ensure waste materials are responsibly handled to minimize their environmental footprint.
